“Into The Light of Another World”

Towards the doorway she walked
With courage and faith
Without knowing what she may find
Into the light of another world she went
Thinking to her self the impossible is possible
If you just believe.

ABOUT THE PHOTO

The other day I saw a link for a tutorial on fantasy edits so I decided to give it a try. The tutorial wasn’t the most helpful but it was inspiring. It got me on the right track anyway.

The image consists of seven separate photos combined in to one final image.

THE PHOTOS USED TO MAKE THE FINAL PHOTO

DSCN8765

Part 1: The tree trunk.

I removed the background and the stone walkway.

I also darkened a few of the shadows.

Part 2: The background.

This photo was actually used twice to fill the whole background.

I added in some “light” to give it a foggy appearance.

Part 3: The archway in the side of the tree.

First, I cropped out the archway portion of the building.

Second, I cropped out everything inside the arch.

Then I darkened it and added a couple effects.

Part 4: View through the tree trunk

I just cropped out an arch shaped section of the photo.

No editing necessary.

Part 5: The steps

First, I cropped out the steps.

Second, I flipped them so they would curve the opposite way.

Then I cut off all unnecessary areas and blended it

into the ground at the base of the tree trunk.

Part 6: The girl

I needed a photo where the subject was walking away from me

so I used this photo of a friend of mine.

All I really had to do was crop her out of this photo

and darken it a bit…then add her to the new photo.

Part 7: The mushrooms

I added two little mushrooms in the bottom corner.

Just for fun.

BLENDING THE PHOTO + SPECIAL EFFECTS

As much as I would love to describe every little detail of how I made the photo…I can’t. It was all trial and error.

I will say however it involved three main things:

1 – Painting in fog and fireflies.

2 – Darkening the image and taking away some of the saturation.

3 – Adding numerous color filters and gradients.

Be sure and let me know what you think.

Thank you for stopping by,
